The Turtle Visit
Yesterday was the highly anticipated trip to the local library. The girls were looking forward to seeing some live turtles. We got ready in time to leave at 1:00pm. The same time that the Turtles started. UGH.
I am pretty sick and yesterday I was really feeling it. My head felt like a six pack of soda, after it had been shaken. Only, I was missing the plastic rings to hold it all together. Yeah. So that explains the trouble getting out of the house…and what I discovered later that day.
We get to the library and find out that the Turtle event is full. It was full an HOUR and a HALF before the thing even started! UGH. So, we go upstairs instead. That was easy. No yelling, no silent scream of doom, just giggles as they press the elevator button. YEEEEESSS!
The girls pick out their books and a movie and we are ready to go home. Leena asked about getting a library card, so we went and filled out the paperwork. The Librarian gave Leena her card and a pen. Without any help, Leena wrote her name on her very first library card.
She was so excited, she wanted to take out another book so she could take it out on her own card. She picked out another book and stood in line all by herself. Then she gave the librarian her card and checked out her first book.
After we get outside and I start to put Phoebe into the car, she starts complaining that her butt was bothering her. I pull up the back of her dress to find out that she has a naked butt! No underware. No diaper. Nothing but.. what is that?.. PEE?!??!??…running down her legs. Great. At least she didn’t do that INSIDE the library.

I was going to comment on how exciting it is when little people can flex their independence and it’s thrilling when they do something new. But maybe going commando before potty training is complete isn’t one of those things.
May 27th, 2009 at 2:15 am
Oh my! What a day that was for you.
May 27th, 2009 at 2:51 am
Sounds like a rollercoaster type of day, courious as to how to rest of the day went for you.
May 27th, 2009 at 3:03 am
Sounds like quite a day! I’m sure it is only hilarious in retrospect.
May 27th, 2009 at 3:57 am
OH MY GOODNESS!! We just went to Lagoon, and our baby…14 months old somehow had the vanishing diaper trick! We had one on him, and then put shorts on him, and at some point…they were gone…for HOURS!! By some Miraculas miracle…he did not pee or poop…and we were saved!! How funny!!
May 27th, 2009 at 4:34 am
Your first library card is always a great event.
May 27th, 2009 at 4:41 am

May 27th, 2009 at 7:48 am
Being a librarian I just have to comment on Leena getting her first library card. That is such a big event in a kids life. We make a big deal out of it at our library. I hope this is the start of a lifelong love of learning.
Of course the panty-less toddler definitely got me giggling.
May 27th, 2009 at 7:56 am
Thank goodness she waited to pee – can you imagine otherwise? Your headache would have permanently set up residence.
May 27th, 2009 at 8:06 am

happy SITS day!

Wow. So your little girl went commando, eh? Well you sure were lucky it didn’t happen in the library. And what a sweet memory of your daughter getting her first library card and checking out her first book. Your kids’ firsts are always big events no matter what they are and it was great you were there for her.
May 27th, 2009 at 8:47 am

May 27th, 2009 at 9:15 am
Oh NO!!! Now I don’t feel as bad taking my girl to church last week with a big, really big, pee diaper cause I forgot to change her before we left the house and being the good mom that I am….yeah no clean diaper!
May 27th, 2009 at 9:28 am
That is hilarious!! Dropping by from SITS. I always hate those days when you go commando and nature sneaks up on you.
May 27th, 2009 at 9:36 am
Probably wasn’t funny at the time but it makes a great story for later!
May 27th, 2009 at 9:50 am
OH YIKES! Yes, for fortunate she didnt pee in the library. I have had pee run out of a diaper onto the floor of a store.
YEAH for library cards though! My kids LOVE LOVE LOVE the library. Cannot get enough of it.
You are adopting your sisters children? that is wonderful.
I love childbirth…would enjoy being a doula.
May 27th, 2009 at 10:02 am

May 27th, 2009 at 11:43 am
Hahaha. Do you have a case of emergency diapers in the car for things like that? Eesh!!
May 27th, 2009 at 12:27 pm
We goats don’t worry about such things. We just squat and go. It is very free…
Happy SITS Day!
May 27th, 2009 at 12:34 pm
Oh my goodness! I don’t know what it is with kids not wanting to wear underwear. I will occasionally still catch my 6 year old boy commando!!
May 27th, 2009 at 12:50 pm
Free indeed!
May 27th, 2009 at 1:01 pm

May 27th, 2009 at 1:08 pm
Visiting from SITS!
Gotta love days like that!
May 27th, 2009 at 1:15 pm
On those days, you just have to laugh it off and then eat ice cream in bed with a good movie when the kids go to sleep.
May 27th, 2009 at 1:16 pm
OMG. Love it. Love your blog.
May 27th, 2009 at 1:38 pm
Now that is a day!!!!! You will laugh one day when you read this, but I am sure at the time laughing was not the first thing that crossed your mind!!!
May 27th, 2009 at 2:03 pm
At least she made it to the car…
May 27th, 2009 at 2:07 pm

May 27th, 2009 at 2:24 pm
Happy SITS Day!!
May 27th, 2009 at 2:28 pm
Ah, I remember those days. Well, I’m technically still living them since my 9yo son is a fan of going commando, but hey! he was then, too. (Maybe he’ll grow out of it before puberty… I hope!
May 27th, 2009 at 4:28 pm
After the bat, and the turkey I was kinda afraid to read this. But it was perfectly innocent.
Except for the pee. LOL!
May 27th, 2009 at 4:40 pm
Oh my gosh!! yeah at least she held it for…your…car??
May 27th, 2009 at 5:01 pm
Oh no! You never know when they will surprise you.
May 27th, 2009 at 5:30 pm
“My head felt like a six pack of soda, after it had been shaken. Only, I was missing the plastic rings to hold it all together.”- Brilliant!!!
May 27th, 2009 at 5:58 pm
Awww bless. kid eh
maybe the turtles got her excited?
May 27th, 2009 at 7:24 pm
Sooo funny! My daughter has actually peed in the library – not fun at all!
May 27th, 2009 at 8:03 pm
Oh you poor dear. That is not fun. Except for the library card. That part is pretty cool; Mister Man did the same thing where he had to go back to get another book when he got his library card. Awwww, they’re growing up!
May 27th, 2009 at 9:30 pm
Stopping by from SITS – the title of your post caught my attention for obvious reasons!
Love the soda comment, I have to remember that one!
May 27th, 2009 at 9:52 pm
How funny! Especially the contrast of events, the very mature event of getting the card and checking out a book, then…the no underwear…too funny!!!
May 27th, 2009 at 10:49 pm
That’s classic! My 3 yr old son has surprised me with no diaper or pull up on…thankfully, i’ve always caught it before leaving the house.
May 27th, 2009 at 11:28 pm
LOL – oh the things I have to look forward to!
May 28th, 2009 at 12:28 am
That is a story to be cherished. You had me ROFLMBO.
May 28th, 2009 at 1:45 am
LOL – good thing she waited to do her business until you left the library! stopping by from SITS
May 28th, 2009 at 1:47 am
That’s some lucky timing!
I’m impressed they didn’t have a meltdown about missing the turtles. Mine would have at that age. So well done for that, at least.
May 31st, 2009 at 3:57 am
One minute they seem so old and mature, and then the next… pee down the leg. Lol.
